Welcome to the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority

Since our establishment, the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) has served as a cornerstone of housing stability in Akron and throughout Summit County. For decades, our agency has worked to ensure that individuals and families have access to safe, affordable, and quality housing. What began as a mission to address critical housing needs has evolved into a comprehensive approach that recognizes housing as the foundation for opportunity, dignity, and long-term success.

Affordable housing is not simply about providing shelter. It is about creating stability for working families, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. It is about giving children a consistent place to learn and grow. It is about supporting economic mobility and strengthening neighborhoods. At AMHA, we understand that when housing is secure, lives can move forward.

Today, AMHA administers a broad portfolio of programs designed to meet the diverse needs of our community. Through our Housing Choice Voucher Program, we partner with private landlords to expand housing options across the region. Our public housing communities provide quality residences supported by ongoing capital improvements and modernization efforts. Beyond housing, we connect residents to services that promote self-sufficiency, educational advancement, workforce development, and overall well-being. By working collaboratively with local governments, nonprofit partners, and community stakeholders, we strive to create pathways that extend far beyond the front door of a home.

Our agency has adapted and grown alongside the community we serve. We have strengthened our compliance and accountability systems, enhanced our customer service standards, and pursued innovative strategies to preserve and expand affordable housing opportunities. We are committed to responsible stewardship of public resources and to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and transparency in our operations.
